It's no secret that Kingsmen makes a quality product. I keep a few of their oils in rotation, I use their conditioner from time to time, and I can say with no uncertainty that I've yet to be let down by anything with the Kingsmen crest on the label. After being impressed with the scent of their Black Knight Conditioner, I decided that I needed to add the matching oil to my repertoire...I just figured with Autumn officially here, it would be nice to have another "cologne type" scent to pair with some of the spicier balms and butters that seem to pop up left and right this time of year. Will this be another instant hit from a brand that I've come to expect nothing less from? Let's take it for a spin and see what's what...
So, if you read this page regularly, I'm sure you already know what I'm going to say; "blah blah blah, "cologne type" is a vague description, blah blah blah" we've been over this ad-nauseum, there is no singluar profile that can be described as "cologne type", so we'll just disregard that and start at square one. First and foremost, I get a warm, baking spice; hints of clove, nutmeg, and the softest suggestion of cinnamon...this is bolstered by an unctuous, buttery caramel wrapped around a light, fresh sandalwood, while orange peel streaks sharply with laser focus in the midnote, and a soft, ethereal lavender mingles with a green note that borders on aquatic in the topnote. This is quite possibly my favorite scent in the entire Kingsmen lineup, and this particular representation is exponentially more intense and commands an even greater depth than the conditioner I reviewed earlier (which makes sense). Strength is a solid medium-plus, and longevity is fantastic, lasting all day long with ease.
How does it work?
As with the two previous oils I've reviewed by Kingsmen, this stuff sports a very straightforward list of ingredients. It does a great job of conditioning deep down, and leaving my beard feeling extremely healthy. The carrier blend is the exact same as both the Dragon and Holy Grail that I tried before, but for whatever reason, this oil seems to last longer for me (might have something to do with the scents? or maybe I'm just being ridiculous? Who knows?) on the several occasions I've worn this oil, I haven't needed a touchup once.
The bottom line
Of all the Kingsmen oils I've tried, this is my favorite. The scent is fantastic, and pairs beautifully with a wide variety of balms and butters...and the performance is top shelf. Just the kind of quality we've come to expect form Kingsmen. Another winner for sure!
