I don't think you need to be an extremely eagle-eyed reader of this site to notice that all of the pictures on product reviews are looking a lot better these days. Well, a few weeks ago, I was having a conversation with the proprietor of Sircar Grooming, and he suggested a few quick and easy upgrades I could employ to give the pictures on all of my reviews a more professional apperance (he is something of a photography buff). Suffice it to say this was a great suggestion...now the dude is no stranger to making good suggestions, as every single one of his products that he's ever suggested to me has been nothing short of a home run! So when he sent over this Sandalwood and Clove scented oil and suggested that I give it a try, I already knew I was in for one hell of an experience. You already know as well as I do that the bar has been set incredibly high by previous Sircar offerings, so let's give this stuff a try and see if it measures up!
Sircar has mastered the art of taking a straight forward scent and exquisitely elevating it to something so deliciously complex, by coaxing every individual facet out of a simple note. This particular scent combines two of the more commonly used scents in beard-care (although oddly enough, you rarely see the two used together), and once again, they don't dissapoint. Warm, and slightly creamy with a mouthwatering balance of spicy and sweet, this is somehting all-together different than what I was expecting. Initially opening up with a strong dose of spicy, antiseptic, almost peppery clove, blanketed by a soft, somewhat buttery sandalwood that prevents it from being too strong and intense. Rather than the raging bull that you get with most clove scents, this is an elegant dressage horse, every sculpted muscle in its body wound tight with unyielding energy, while every move it makes is incredibly graceful, the power is there, but it never insists upon flexing unnecessarily. As the clove relaxes throughout the course of the day, it becomes fruity, almost floral, while its residual heat carries on with a profound resonance, blending seamlessly with the soft dry sandalwood from the inital opening to create a cashmere softness that feels like a warm embrace for my beard. A deep, bold, and powerful scent, brimming with sophistication and brilliant energy. For a truly incredible combination, try layering this scent underneath The Grower balm by Barbu, the spicy citrus redolence that the two create in concert with one another is both exhilirating and refreshing. Strength is a solid medium-plus, and staying power is incredible, lasting 8+ hours after application every time I've worn it (and I've been wearing it quite a bit).
How does it work?
I've gushed ad nauseam over how much I enjoy the performance of Sircar oils, so I'll keep this section short and sweet. Packed with a top quality carrier blend, this stuff gets to work right away in my beard, imparting an incredible healthy feeling to both my beard and face. Conditioning properties are just as great as any other Sircar oil I've tried, boosting the strength of every individual hair on my face to incredibly high levels. In-beard feel is lightweight and luxurious, absorption is also incredible, leaving behind no greasy feel, just a silky softness that I catch myself reaching up to touch throughout the day, without even really knowing what I'm doing. Finishing properties are just as incredible as one would expect from a Sircar Grooming oil, leaving my beard shimmering as if I had just combed stardust through it. Staying power is also exceptional, with a single morning application leaving both my beard and face feeling incredibly moisturized and healthy all day long!
The bottom line
I've become quite familiar with the Sircar catalogue over the past few months, as such, I already knew that I was going to enjoy this product before I even sampled it. Still, there's always something exciting about trying an all new scent, especially when it's something that I might not normally pick for myself. Clove is a scent that requires a skillful hand when blending, and this fragrance stands as a solid testament to Sircar Grooming's skill in that arena. Performance is, as always, extremely on point, so much so, that if somebody new to the beard-care game were to ask me to create a list of what products represent textbook examples of everything a great beard oil should be, this stuff would definitely be pretty high on that list. From a value standpoint this is one of Sircar's higher priced oils, but factoring in both the quality of the scent as well as the extremely elite performance, it would be difficult to find something better for the money. All in all, this is a truly brilliant oil that no well-rounded beard-care arsenal is complete without!
