Is everybody out there enjoying their influx in free time lately? I've certainly been using it to get caught up on a lot of things. I fixed that one tile under the bathroom cabinet that's been bugging the crap out of me for years now, made a huge dent in my "to watch" list (incidentally, 3 From Hell was so bad, it actually made me like House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects a little bit less just because they are part of the same trilogy...I mean we're talking about quite possibly the worst third movie in a trilogy since Godfather 3...just terrible...it honestly made me lose a bit of respect for Rob Zombie...I know I'm getting off topic here, but I cannot stress enough how much that movie suuuuuucks! Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled programming)...and of course, I'm finally getting caught up on some of the reviews that I've been wanting to get posted for a while now. Sircar Grooming sent me this oil a few weeks back, and I've been meaning to organize my thoughts on it into a review. We already know that I'm a huge fan of everything Sircar makes, the oils, the balms, there isn't a single product in their catalogue that is anything short of top-notch. I've been getting some good use out of this product, and have been taking notes along the way. So where does it land among other premium oils out there? Only one way to find out...let's give it a try...
At once very similar to the matching balm I reviewed a few weeks back, and also its own distinctive peppermint scent. I've always admired how evident the quality of Sircar scents are, even something as rudimentary as peppermint, a note that is more commonly known for singing backup in other blends, is brimming with nuance and allure here. Fresh, green, almost fruity, this isn't just a typical "good enough" permutation of peppermint that conjures up mental images of toothpaste, or chewing gum, instead it paints a picture of emerald green leaves plucked moments ago from healthy stalks sprouting up from fresh, sweet soil resting in an ornate pot, sitting on a polished oak bar bathed in a warm ray of brilliant natural sunlight. The juicy freshness tricks your mind into reading it as almost boozy with how sweet and concentrated it is...a brilliant representation that segues into a crisp, dry green presence that hints at notes of mossy, chypre but never quite crosses into that territory. The brilliant tactile tingle present in the balm is even more prominent in this oil, which heightens the overall experience just that much more, it reminds me of a slap across the face with a palm full of Osage rub, absolutely exhillirating. Strength is a solid medium plus, and staying power is great, with that awesome freshness easily detectable for a good 6-8+ hours after application, every time I've worn it. If you're looking for an insanely refreshing combination, try layering this oil with the incredible Arnie Palmer butter from Barn Brand Beards.
How does it work?
How does one properly kick off an assessment of the performance of an oil that's impressed you in every previous permutation you've tried...well, the way I see it, you just accept the fact that you're going to love it before you even try it. Sometimes you just have to roll with the fact that something is just plain awesome, and doesn't require a ton of dissection. This oil lives up to the precident set by every...single...beard...oil that I've tried from Sircar. So forgive me if it sounds like I'm phoning it in, but I'm going to repeat myself a lot here. This is an incredible oil that goes beyond just being "good", by not only having my beard feeling soft and my face feeling moisturized, but by having them both feel healthier after application than before. The incredibly strong feeling that this stuff leaves my beard with is my absolute favorite part. Staying power is exceptional, as always, delivering that great in-beard feel all day long on a single application.
The bottom line.
Very few beard-care companies out there have the same "golden touch" that Sircar Grooming Co has. The spot that they occupy among the absolute upper-echelon of small-batch indie brands is well deserved, one needs to only look at the level of quality in this product as proof of that. This scent sets a new high mark for all peppermint beard-care products, and the performance is just as outstanding as any that I have expedrienced from this company. Sporting a price tag that could be considered on the low-end for a top-quality beard oil, this stuff may very well represent the best value in the entire Sircar lineup. Either way, this is an absolutely brilliant beard-oil that I cannot recommend highly enough. Without question a product that no well-rounded beard-care arsenal is complete without!
